Carpet Cleaning FAQ — Marina Del Rey, CA

Common questions from homeowners in Marina Del Rey and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.

My carpet is wet. When can I put the room back to normal use?

Plan on four to eight hours before the carpet feels dry underfoot. Marina Del Rey works against us a little here. The marine layer and morning fog keep humidity up most of the year, so drying runs slower than it would inland. We pull as much moisture as the extraction wand will lift, then set air movers and ask you to run the AC or a fan on the room. You can walk on it in clean socks right away. Hold off on shoes, pets and heavy furniture until it is fully dry.

What does a visit look like from the moment the tech arrives?

The tech walks the space with you first and points out the spots, traffic lanes and anything that may not respond. Furniture that needs to move gets moved. Then the carpet is vacuumed dry, sprayed with pre-conditioner and agitated so the solution reaches the base of the pile. Hot water extraction follows, lane by lane, with a rinse pass that removes the cleaning agent instead of leaving it behind. We finish with spot treatment where it is needed, place protective tabs under furniture legs and set air movers before we leave.

Hot water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: which one do you use on my carpet?

Hot water extraction is our default. It flushes salt aerosol and fine beach sand out of the pile rather than moving it around, and that matters on a coastline with a year-round onshore breeze. Shampooing has a place on heavily soiled commercial-grade loop carpet in a lobby or hallway, where the mechanical scrubbing does real work. Low-moisture dry cleaning goes on wool and wool-blend goods, some Karastan and Masland constructions, and any job in an occupied unit that has to be walkable in an hour.

How often should carpet actually be cleaned?

Every twelve months covers a quiet condo with two adults and no pets. Cut that to six or eight months if you have a dog, kids, or a unit that gets steady foot traffic from the harbor side. Marina Del Rey adds its own factor. Sand and salt ride in on shoes and through open sliders, and both are abrasive enough to wear fiber down between cleanings. Shaw, Mohawk and Stainmaster warranties usually require documented professional cleaning on a set schedule, so check your paperwork if the carpet is newer.

How is the cost worked out?

Square footage is the base. Then we look at how many rooms, how soiled the carpet is, the fiber, and whether stairs, landings or pet treatment are involved. Elevator access and a long carry from the garage in a mid-rise add time, and we account for that up front rather than after the fact. The estimate is free and the quote is firm before any equipment comes off the truck. Nothing gets added mid-job without your approval.

Do your techs move the furniture?

Sofas, chairs, coffee tables and dining sets, yes. We move them, clean under them and set them back on tabs or blocks. We leave alone anything with real risk attached: pianos, large aquariums, wall units, media consoles with wired electronics, and anything a single person cannot lift safely. If you can clear small items, lamps and floor plants off the carpet before we arrive, the crew spends its time cleaning instead of staging. Tell us at the walkthrough if a piece has a loose leg or a fragile finish.

Are there stains you cannot remove?

Food, drink, mud, tracked-in sand, most pet accidents and general traffic soil come out with normal extraction and the right pre-treatment. Coffee, wine and grease respond well when they are treated before they set. What does not come out is anything that has dyed or damaged the fiber itself: bleach, benzoyl peroxide from acne products, some plant fertilizers, older dye transfer from rubber-backed mats, and pet urine that has soaked into the pad and wicked back. Sun fading along a west-facing slider is fiber damage too, not soil. The tech will tell you which category your spot falls into before we start, not after.

Is this safe with a toddler and a cat in the house?

The solutions we use are water-based and rinse out during the extraction pass, so nothing is left sitting in the pile. We do keep kids and pets off the carpet while hoses are run and equipment is moving, mostly to avoid trips and tangles. Once the carpet is dry the room is fine to use normally. If anyone in the household has asthma or a fragrance sensitivity, say so when you book and we will use a fragrance-free product.

Can you handle my sectional, area rugs and tile floors too?

Yes to all three. Upholstery is cleaned on site with a hand tool and a solution matched to the fabric, and we test a hidden panel first. Area rugs can be cleaned in place if the construction allows it, or picked up for off-site washing when the rug is wool, silk-blend or hand-knotted. Tile and grout gets pressure cleaning with contained extraction, which is common in the kitchens and baths of these slab-on-grade and podium buildings. Bundling rooms and surfaces into one visit is usually the cheaper way to go, and we will price it that way.

Can you come today, and how far do you travel?

Same-day slots open up regularly, especially in the mid-morning and early afternoon. Call early and we will tell you straight whether we can reach you today or whether tomorrow is the honest answer. We cover Marina Del Rey and the surrounding coastal side of LA County, and we work daily in the 1960s-1980s mid-rise, garden apartment, condo and townhome complexes that make up most of the housing here. Give us the building name, the unit and whether there is elevator or garage access, and the tech will show up with the right hose length.
